Project Objective:

The "Future Thinking" project delves into proactive solutions for impending global challenges, with a particular focus on the interconnected issues of overpopulation and world hunger.

Research Approach: In my exploration, I delved into historical precedents, studying the impact of China's one-child policy. Drawing parallels with current agricultural practices, specifically nutrient-arm soil, informed the foundation of my research.

Three Solutions Explored:

1. Status Quo - Doing Nothing:

   • Future Projection: If no action is taken, I foresee widespread nutrient deficiency in the soil. This could lead to intense global competition for the limited areas capable of sustaining high-nutrient-value food production.
   • Implications: Heightened geopolitical tensions as nations vie for the diminishing fertile lands, potentially resulting in conflicts over food security.

1. Alternative Protein Source - Insects:

   • Rationale: Given the environmental impact of the meat industry, I proposed a shift to insect-based protein. Insects are efficient converters of organic waste, require minimal resources, and have a shorter production cycle compared to traditional livestock.
   • Benefits: Reduced environmental pollution, quicker production, and a more sustainable protein source.

1. Revolutionizing Agriculture - Food Forests:

   • Concept: Departing from traditional large-scale monoculture, the idea is to establish food forests. These ecosystems mimic natural forests, promoting biodiversity and enhancing soil fertility by allowing different plants to contribute varied nutrients.
   • Advantages: Preservation of soil fertility, reduced environmental strain, and a move towards more sustainable agricultural practices.

Envisioned Future:

The proposed solutions present a spectrum of potential outcomes. Whether through inertia, adopting alternative protein sources, or embracing food forests, the envisioned future involves navigating a complex landscape where global decisions today,   shape the world's food security tomorrow.
